FGGC Owerri Worldwide Contact List collation and Reunion Lunch

We are putting together a Worldwide Contact list for all FGGC Owerri Old Girls and arranging a reunion in London with Sheila Everard, the Founding Principal of our alma mater as Guest of Honour. Mrs Everard would be delighted to meet as many of us as possible to catch up with our news and find out how we have all been getting on. It would really be lovely if as many of us as possible can make it to the planned lunch to catch up with lost friends and colleagues

Here are the arrangements.

Time: 12:30pm on 16 November 2008

Place: Prezzo Restaurant at 4 Victoria Buildings, 22 Terminus Place, London SW1V 1JR.
It is an Italian Restaurant just outside Victoria Station.

Programme: we aim for a 12:30pm start with lunch served at 1:00pm on the dot. Some of us will be travelling in from outside London and will need to get back at a reasonable time. So, Ladies, let us all agree, No Naija time!!

Finances: Prezzo’s menu is attached. An average 3-course meal with a glass of wine/any other drink is approximately £20. We need to make a deposit of £5 per person for Prezzo to hold our reservation. This will go towards the cost of the meal on the day. But we fear it will be forfeited if a person does not attend.

Menu choices: please let me know your menu choices in advance so we do not spend forever waiting to be served.

Memento: we are collating a Photo Message Book for Mrs Everard. This will include our current photos (with or without our families) and, if possible, photos of us at school. Please see the template for all required information attached.

Contact List booklet: will be compiled and distributed with details of those who wish to be included in it. Grateful if the filled templates with photos are sent to me before 15 October 2008 to allow time for compilation.

RSVP: as soon as possible, please, so we can reserve seats well in advance.

Please do forward this email to every Old Girl you are in contact with and if they did not get this email direct from and would like to be included in this mailing list, could they send an email direct to me at: mmoley9@yahoo.com

I am attaching all the additional material to this email to avoid sending out too many emails, so, those of you who won’t be making the lunch, should pardon me.

Looking forward to hearing from you all, wherever in world you may be.

Best Regards

Mmoley Taylor (formerly Edith Nnang)

Dubem, I even saw Agodi Alagbe also attended and lots of other old girls. It was very well organized too. Sheila Everard looked amazing!

OMG it was fantastic - and to think I nearly didn't bother coming cos I was running late!

I jammed them manging through the first course, and I was ushered (ok pointed) to my table where my place seating was waiting for me. Impressed.
The 1979 rep was speaking when I got there, she was the first to give her speech - of course I couldn't tell, she looked so young! After her, every set that was represented gave a speech recounting as best they could their journey through school, the fun times and the noot-so-fun-times, the way the school was back then - physically, the teachers they met, the personal encounters with Ms Everard (gosh I envied those that met her). We had 79, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 88, 91 and 95. What a turnout! I think there were about 60 of us in total.

Every so often in the middle of someone's speech, they would break into one jogging song or another and we'd all roaringly join in. It's amazing how some songs survived the years and simply lived on. Chizor really repped O! I met some ladies that I know in other social circles and didn't even know they went to feddy. It was a most refreshing change from the usual hang-out-with-your-mates, set-specific reunions that I've been used to.
We had people from 9ja, The States, Paris, etc., and Ms Everard herself travelled from Durham, 300 miles away in the North of England. She told us she turned 70 this year, and so that makes 2008 a special year for her, along with reuniting with her girls.

After we'd all spoken and demolished our next courses, the lovely lady herself spoke. It reminded me of 'Tales by Moonlight' , the way we were all listening with rapt attention as she recounted her sourjourn in Nigeria starting in 1966, how the war broke out and she had to bail out, then came back in 73, then from Lagos was told she was going to Owerri, then had to do some James Bond-like driving to get her from Lagos to Owerri to start the school; encountering blown up bridges and an airfield full of crashed planes. The guns of battle were really silent for us! She started the school with 23 students. With barely any facilities. 2 dorms - the girls slept in one and studied in one. Her hotel room (the soja that was occupying her proposed quarters refused to go back to Kano, so she camped out in a bullet-ridden hotel room with no lock whilst waiting for him to take his merry time...

I couldn't have spent a more fulfilling sunday afternoon. We then socialised, took photos, exchanged numbers and nominated year reps for future activities. We were out of PREZZO, Northumberland Ave. pretty sharpish, around 5:30pm bur not without making a lasting impression on the staff and fellow diners, who glanced our way every so often -ESPECIALLY when we broke into song  . Passers-by too. OK I thought I knew all there was to know about FGGCO history, apparently not, the 'senior girls' sang a quasi-anthem which they called Orange Rose. You learn everyday eh?

Trish and I finally left later, and after walking to the tube in my uber-high heels, I respected myself and pulled out my sensible flatties for the gruelling escalator moves ahead :D ...

Here endeth my version, for those that came before me mgbor, what happened?
Fearfully and wonderfully made. And then they threw away the mould
