Abuja Gateway Consortium (AGC), yesterday won bid for the concession of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, with an offer of $101.1m (N13.13billion) .
The consortium, made up of six foreign and local partners, is expected to pay an entry fee of $10million develop and manage the airport for 25 years and remit 18.1 per cent of its annual turnover to the Federal Government.

The consortium includes: Naira Net Technologies; Airline Services Limited; Gitto Costruzioni Generali Nigeria Limited; A.G Ferrero & Co Limited; Airport Consulting, Vienna, Austria and Airports Authority of India. Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Mrs Irene Chigbue, who announced the result at the financial bid opening ceremony, said the offer was well above the reserve price, adding that the consortium demonstrated an unwavering faith in the transaction and were the only bidders to get to the final stage out of the five contenders that were initially pre-qualified for the bid.

She described is as a successful, but complicated and tedious transaction, but expressed delight that the deal was finally struck with the consortium of investors who have shown keen interest in the process.
Chigbue said the transaction was not an outright sale, but a Public Private Partnership arrangement that will ultimately transform the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport into a major business hub in the West African sub-region.

She said with the successful concession of the Abuja International Airport, the stage was now set for similar exercises for the Port Harcourt, Enugu, Kano and Lagos Airports next year. She said the bid results will be submitted to the federal government for its approval before the deal takes effect.

I'm just embarrassed that it took plane crashes, which claimed lives to WAKE them up. It just goes to show that we know what to do to improve things , but choose to be lackadaisical about them.
...but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. ( Phil. 3: 13-14)
